Instability around the CIS is expanding, as stated by President Alexander Lukashenko at the 40th meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS in Minsk.

According to the Belarusian leader, the post-Soviet region is facing new challenges that require solidarity and a joint response. Among them are increasing global tensions, NATO’s expansion to the East, the migration crisis in Europe, the fight against transnational crime, drug trafficking and trafficking in human beings and, of course, the spread of terrorism and radical movements. All this requires joint action within the CIS. The CIS itself, according to the President, needs modernising and adapting to present day realities. Alexander Lukashenko urged to more actively and openly discuss problems existing in the union of independent states.
