International Committee of Red Cross Office to open in Belarus on 1 January

The International Committee of the Red Cross Belarus Office will open in Minsk on 1 January 2018. In recent years, the geography of the humanitarian organization has expanded significantly, and today it has a large network of regional offices around the world. In more than 80 countries, Red Cross personnel are helping people affected by armed conflict and violence.

A comprehensive partnership between Belarus and the ICRC was discussed this week at the meeting of President Alexander Lukashenko and ICRC President Peter Maurer.

As stated by Alexander Lukashenko, the official Minsk will support the International Committee, as well as assist countries that are in trouble. The Belarusian nation had gone through a lot of hardships in the course of its history, and so Belarus knows firsthand all the hardships of war. And in this turbulent time Belarus does not stand aside and is a reliable guarantor of security in the region.

As always, Belarus stands for peaceful settlement of any conflicts and a global dialogue and is always ready to help. In recent years, for example, Belarus sent humanitarian aid to Syria, Iraq, Nepal, and Ukraine.
