Now there are more than 42 tons of precious metal in the National Bank vaults. As the regulator said earlier, in digital terms, the gold and foreign exchange reserves of our country have increased by almost a third over the past year. Thus, as of January 1, they amounted to $9.4 billion, according to preliminary data.

Alexander Sabodin, financial analyst: "In recent years, the National Bank has sought an opportunity to raise the level of gold and foreign currency reserves. This year, in 2020, the budget will be in deficit. That is, the accumulated surplus will come in handy now."

The indicator of gold and foreign exchange reserves has an important impact on the foreign liabilities of our country. In other words, the saved funds will also be used to repay debts to foreign creditors. The current national debt of Belarus is slightly over $16.5 billion.
