Vyacheslav Reut: There are no high risks of financing terrorism in Belarus

14 ноября 2018

There are no high risks of financing terrorism in Belarus, said Vyacheslav Reut, Director of the Financial Monitoring Department of the State Control Committee. The statement was made before the start of the meeting of the Council of heads of financial intelligence units of the CIS countries. At the same time, the use of the national financial system is still possible given the transit nature of the country. Therefore, financial intelligence of Belarus constantly monitors the possible ways of transferring money from suspicious sources. Financial flows of cryptocurrencies are tracked as well. Today, the main problem in this issue is the lack of a unified legal framework.

On these days, the 29th Plenary Week of the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism is taking place in Minsk. Today, a seminar was held within the forum on the preparation of Belarusian specialists for the international assessment of the national anti-laundering system. The monitoring itself will take place in March, when EAG evaluators will visit Belarus. The results of this check will affect the ability to improve the country's credit and other ratings.
