Council of Ministers sums up results of economy for 9 months

10 ноября 2020

Coronavirus should not be the main reason for the reduction in the efficiency of enterprises, announced the Prime Minister of Belarus today. The Presidium of the Council of Ministers reviewed the results of the economy for 9 months. This year has been a test for all countries. According to the latest data, the recession led to a drop in world GDP by almost four and a half percent. And this, unfortunately, is not the limit,  experts note.

When we talk about the world economy of 2020, we take into account the main factor - the  COVID. Closed borders impeded the development of entire industries and export linkages in general. Of course, this has also affected Belarus. But this is not a reason not to fill the budget or meet social obligations. After all, the economy must work primarily for the well-being of people.

Attracting investment, increasing exports, as well as reducing costs and stocks - the targets for economic growth were set back in the summer. Today all regions are in contact with the Council of Ministers. They are reconciling their positions. The Prime Minister called the smooth running of enterprises the main task that has been achieved in difficult economic conditions. Part-time employment has been reduced by four times as compared to May. Mass dismissals of employees have been avoided.

The Government does not hide it: not all data is optimistic. At the end of the year, the budget may be less than 3 billion rubles. There is no need to explain the reason - the pandemic, and the difficulties with oil supplies in the first quarter. Consequently, revenues from the sale of oil products decreased.

Construction, agriculture and the communications sector are still on the plus side, despite the difficult year. And this trend must be maintained until the end of 2020. They must also pull other sectors of the economy together so that GDP is 100% above last year's level. The regional authorities will have to deal with loss-making organisations before the end of the year. It will not be possible to explain everything by the pandemic here. The indicators must be met.
