New concept of Belarus' energy security presented in Minsk

6 марта 2014
Academicians and officials have been working on the document for 1.5 yeas. In the near future the concept will be submitted for consideration to the President.
The document on Belarus' energy policy is based on four major principles: energy independence, which means increase in the use of local energy sources, including renewable ones; a larger number of providers and types of energy; energy supply security and energy efficiency. By 2035, the dependence of Belarus' energy industry on natural gas should decrease by 25 percent. The document also suggests introduction of smart energy meters.
Special attention in the new document is paid to nuclear energy. When the Belarusian NPP is launched, it will be possible to refuse from energy imports. Moreover, the country will even be able to export nuclear energy.
