By Katerina Shibko: This system appeared in Poland two years ago. Instead of checkpoints a special frame was set up. When driving through it, the charges are paid automatically. To do this, a special device is attached to the car windshield which exchanges information with scanner on the metal frame. If it is removed, this is immediately fixed by cameras. As long as the offender does not pay the fine, he is unlikely to cross the border.
The device can be taken at special customer service points. The procedure lasts a maximum of 15 minutes. Naturally, drivers used to spend a lot more time to pay at each checkpoint before the introduction of the system.
Such customer service points will be located in every regional center of Belarus as well as at gas stations and in border areas.
Initially, when the introduction of the system only started in Poland, about 1,000 kilometers were decided to be paid for. Now there are more than 2,000 kilometers due to the fact that the project paid for itself very quickly - within 17 months.
A similar project will be introduced in Belarus on July 1. Technically, the system will not differ from its Polish, Czech and Austrian counterparts. The only difference is that Customs Troika drivers will be granted a free pass.
815 kilometers will be paid for in Belarus.
Viktor Tanaevsky, chairman of the Directorate of Kapsch Telematic Services: The project is, of course, very important because much transit traffic passes through the territory of Belarus. In the Czech Republic, in Germany and Poland, all these roads are paid for with the help of new technologies.
The charge will depend on the parameters of the vehicle and paid in Belarusian rubles.
All the money will be spent on road repairs. The cost of the Belarusian project is more than 260 million euros. It is likely to pay off sooner than in three years.
