A new logistics complex will be the first one in the Great Stone Industrial Park, which is home to eight companies, including a Belarusian one. About half a billion dollars is planned to be invested by the Chinese company China Merchants Group. The company came to Belarus with its strategy. Firstly, it intends to connect Belarus and Lithuania, the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union. Also, the project will be a bridge between the Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park Great Stone, the Kaunas Free Economic Zone and the port of Klaipeda. Four kinds of logistics will be used for that purpose - European motorways, Belarusian air transportation, European and Asian railways and shipping traffic in the Baltic Sea.
The largest commercial and logistics centre, the construction of which has begun today, will occupy an area of 100,000 square metres.
Basically, the project is the first step towards the implementation of a cross-border free zone between the two integrations, to uniting the Eurasian continent as a trading platform without borders and barriers. The construction of the retail and logistics centre in the Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park will be an additional incentive for investors, the Government believes.
Similar parks and free zones are emerging in Russia, Kazakhstan and Lithuania. The growing competition for the arrival of large investors means the need to offer more preferences. Therefore, the Government is currently developing new approaches to further improve Belarus’ investment climate. The document is planned to be finalised by the end of the year.
