Belarus and Leningrad Region plan to increase trade by 20%. It is envisaged to intensify work through Russian ports.
Belarus is the main trade partner for Leningrad Region. Last year, the turnover reached half a million dollars, but the pandemic intervened and it decreased by 7%. And now, according to governor Alexander Drozdenko, there are all the prospects to increase it. One of the new directions is environmental issues. This is primarily due to the supply of Belarusian modular water treatment plants to Leningrad Region. t is ideal for small settlements with a population of no more than 5 000 people.
Alexander Drozdenko, Governor of Leningrad Region of Russia: "The stations turned out to be very good. They help to remove iron, turbidity, impurities. The output is good drinking water. Several stations have been installed. We have a fairly large contract, we want to buy more than 100 stations, that is, such good support for our turnover."
The transfer of Belarusian goods from the Baltic states to the ports of Leningrad Region will also help to increase trade turnover. Ust Luga is one of the most versatile. 13 terminals provide transshipment services for more than 20 types of cargo. These are oil products, coal, sulfur, fertilizers, grain, timber, and much more. Now the port's annual capacity is more than 100 million tons. By 2022 it is planned to almost double it.
Another project is the creation of a joint Belarusian-Russian fish breeding facility. The annual demand is 1.5 million tons. Now fish feed is bought in Norway, but they are ready to replace them with Belarusian ones.
Leningrad Region is also interested in the supply of Belarusian forestry equipment. The region is actively developing reforestation. Over 400 hectares have been planted this year alone. Great prospects are in the construction sector. This is a new area of cooperation. Recently, a Belarusian company won a tender for the construction of a school and kindergarten in one of the districts of Leningrad Region. And if the work suits the customer, in the future we will talk about the construction of residential areas, hospitals, and sports facilities.
