The weather opens new opportunities for Belarusians. The heat period this summer has become the longest in 25 years. Forecasters say: agro-climatic zones shifted in our country. This means: in addition to the usual potatoes, beets, onions, we have every chance to grow melons. By the way, the harvest of watermelons and cantaloupes is very successful this year.
Apple orchard, as a small child, requires being taken care of all the time. Thanks to breeding selection agrarians managed to pick a few varieties that give stable yields.
Part of the harvested apples goes to Russia. Our apples are popular there. According to farmers, the demand always exceeds supply. Plucked apples are sometimes sold directly to the wheels.
Annually Belarus consumes 90,000 tons of apples. Among them only half of the apples are of Belarusian origin. At the same time, the storage capacity is only 80 thousand tons. The President repeatedly says that we can cover the demand for apples ourselves.
But if apples are traditional goods for Belarus, melons are still quite exotic for us. However, today melons are not so rare for Belarusian fields.
5,000 tons of watermelons are imported today in Belarus. This is a decent amount of money that can be left in our pocket. According to experts, in order to cover the demand it is necessary to plant one hundred and fifty hectares.
Last week, during his working trip to Grodno region, the head of state drew attention of the governors to the cultivation of melons. According to the President, not only the southern regions of the country can get a good harvest of them.
Alexander Lukashenko demonstrated it clearly. Excellent melons ripened on the territory of the residence. The head of state gathered the rich harvest together with his son Nicholai.
The climate and soil in Belarus allow for growing melons on an industrial scale, cost-effectively and with good efficiency.
