By Natalia Kezik: The first section, which is currently being built, will connect M3 and M6 motorways. The construction of the second ring road will be held in two stages - the second road section is supposed to connect Minsk- Grodno and Brest - Minsk roads. The third section of the new ring road will connect Brest - Minsk, Minsk - National Airport and Sloboda - Papernya routes. In total, the second ring road will be more than 160 km in length.
Traffic capacity of the Minsk beltway now makes up about 90-100,000 cars per day. After the second ring road is opened, only vehicles belonging to enterprises and trade outlets will be allowed to enter the first ring road. Long-distance truckers will bypass the capital. This factor will help improve the environmental situation. Moreover, the second ring road will connect suburban villages and satellite towns.
The first 20 km of the road are expected to be put into operation this year.
