Washington is considering lifting sanctions on Belarusian potash fertilizers. In exchange, Belarus will be required to agree to transit of Ukrainian grain through its territory. According to the newspaper interlocutors, they are discussing lifting of sanctions for six months. According to the U.S. plan, the delivery of crops from Ukraine will be carried out by railroad through Belarus to the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda. However experts think that Belarusian railway route will not be enough for transportation of millions tons of grain exported by Ukraine every year.
Earlier, the UN Secretary General António Guterres suggested softening restrictions on potash exports from Russia and Belarus in exchange for the admission of vessels carrying grain from Ukrainian ports. According to Germany, 25 million tons of crops are blocked there.
