Development of agricultural sector of Vitebsk Region discussed at meeting with President

Salaries, staff, state support are all areas for the development of the country's northern region. The President went through the drawbacks of the agrarian system of the Vitebsk Region during the meeting. The President's personal visit to the region at the end of November, when he evaluated local managers' proposals, gave impetus for today's meeting. The idea to create a super holding from existing unprofitable ones was rejected. Now the task is to strengthen the existing integration structures with strong personnel, to finalize the rehabilitation course for the agricultural sector in the region. The main thing is to make the enterprises profitable again and to concentrate on the meat and dairy industries. All proposals are evaluated by a wide range of managers and specialists.

The negative dynamics of the agricultural sector was noted over the last 5 years in the northern region. The governor spoke about specific measures of financial recovery and strategic options: to combine farms and raw-material zones, which aren't fully loaded, to increase export potential of the entire region.

According to Prime Minister Sergei Rumas, the entire agro-industrial complex of the region has accumulated Br3 billion debts. Experts have worked out various options to reduce the debt, but have not yet come to a single decision. The President’s demand is to decrease the debt.
