President sets goals for government in agro-industrial complex

29 апреля 2021

A major meeting on the work of the agro-industrial complex has been held today at the Independence Palace.

Governors, ministers, representatives of science and regulatory bodies attended the meeting. Last year tested the system of international economic relations. The so-called dictatorship and order showed their effectiveness, the President said with some irony.

The results are obvious. When there was a panic in the world, when it faced a shortage of products, the agro-industrial complex of our country was not affected by the coronavirus. Thanks to the potential in the agricultural sector, which we created in the period of independence, and the right tactics we used, we have significantly increased our production. Last year we ensured the growth of production of the main types of goods. A good dynamic was observed in all regions of the country.

But the President urged the participants of the meeting not to rejoice at figures and world rankings, but keep on working and solve domestic problems. For example, this year the production of livestock and poultry has been reduced, there has been a slight loss of livestock, which is unacceptable.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus: "A loss of livestock is inadmissible if we want . agricultural production to grow. If two or three farms cannot cope with it, young stock must be removed from those farms and sent to those farms that can take care of them."

The President demanded restoring order in the country. While visiting the Chernobyl-affected areas, Alexander Lukashenko was able to assess the situation in the agricultural lands from a helicopter. The Head of State pointed to a number of problems that must be resolved in the near future including land reclamation, old empty houses and obsolete abandoned farms.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus: "I insist on the intensification of land reclamation.  We are losing vast areas, thousands of hectares.  Land reclamation, soil maintenance, increase of fertility - this is the task of state importance. This is our task. That is why I will ask the minister and Deputy Prime Minister to deal with these problems. Another problem is the large number of empty homesteads and abandoned houses in some villages.  During this year we will have the entire vertical of power to promptly resolve these issues. The ownerless houses should either be sold or demolished and buried if no one wants them. And the land freed up should be used for agriculture. Get everything in order!"

The President announced that he will find time to personally inspect the country and draw conclusions about what the governors and their teams are capable of doing.
