President visits Minsk tannery

23 марта 2021

Raw material quality, upgrade options and off-route inspection. The head of state is visiting Minsk tannery today.

The plant is located outside the capital. Half of the plant's territory is not used. Dealing with unusable and empty buildings is a requirement of the President. There is no final decision yet, although the issue was raised back in 2014. The opinions of the management of the enterprise and officials differed: some spoke for the demolition, others for the modernization and expansion of production. During the visit, Alexander Lukashenko got acquainted with the technological process, product samples and finished products. Moreover, he walked around all the workshops.

Modernization and changes in the work process were discussed at an operational meeting. Alexander Lukashenko noted that the leather industry and the livestock industry as a whole are the most important areas of the economy, and this cannot be ruined. The number one challenge is to use own raw materials.

The government came up with a proposal to privatize the plant in Gatovo. This was the only way to solve the problems at the enterprise. However, the head of state recalled that before selling the plant, it is necessary to coordinate this decision with the labor collective, and then with the local authorities. But the workers of the plant voted against this decision. The President instructed to provide the plant with the necessary support and form a working group in the government from consumer enterprises. Today Alexander Lukashenko will also talk with representatives of the labor collective.
