A gradual recovery of main economic development indicators has been observed in Belarus, as stated by Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov at today’s expanded meeting of the Council of Ministers dedicated to the country’s development results over the past 10 months. In particular, the situation in agriculture has been normalised, industry monthly approaching last year’s level. At the same time, production cost decline has been slow, the enterprises of the Architecture and Construction Ministry, Belneftekhim and Bellesbumprom seeing an increase in the costs. As a result, only 2 out of 7 most important socio-economic development parameters have been achieved, namely in terms of inflation level and positive foreign trade balance. GDP lag stands at nearly 3%. Creating new jobs and opening efficient enterprises has not yet become a priority for district level managers. The Government has set up a special group to deal with employment issues. Prior to New Year holidays the Trade Ministry has been tasked with monitoring the situation in Belarus’ consumer market in terms of the range and prices of goods.
