Grodno region’s first biogas plant has been launched in the Shchuchin district. The project worth about $ 5 million was completed in just one year, thanks to the attraction of foreign and domestic investments. The technology that allows receiving electricity from organic waste was provided by a Lithuanian company. One of the Belarusian banks was a partner of the project. As a result, the power plant with a capacity of 5 megawatts will annually produce about 40 million kilowatt hours of clean electricity for consumption within the country. This is enough to ensure the need for electricity of a whole village.
Due to the active development of animal husbandry in the country, the construction of biogas plants is a promising direction of green energy. So, an agreement has already been reached with potential investors on the construction of two more similar bio-power plants in the Shchuchin district.
