The International Monetary Fund supports the program of the Government of Belarus to stabilize the economic situation in the country, said the head of the IMF mission to Belarus David Hoffman. He hopes that structural changes in the economy will continue this and next year. In particular, the IMF welcomes the passage of the National Bank to a more flexible exchange rate and the tightening of monetary policy.
David Hoffman, head of the IMF mission to Belarus:
"We fully support the intention to make the exchange rate flexible, because in such a system, the exchange rate can constantly adapt and it will allow the economy to mitigate external instability."
According to David Hoffman, Belarus needs a comprehensive package of structural reforms for the long term.
