Lukashenko: Our food security is at stake

22 марта 2022
Grain, in today's reality, becomes the new gold and oil. All world leaders are shouting about the impending global hunger crisis.

Today they are discussing food security in the Palace of Independence.

The sowing campaign in Belarus this year is taking place in non-standard conditions. This is also a hot conflict near the southern borders and the sanctions pressure of the West. The rhetoric of restrictions in our region has strongly affected the world prices. The cost of energy, fertilizers and foodstuffs has skyrocketed. Ukraine, one of the world's most important suppliers, can forget about a proper sowing season. So, the demand at the markets will only grow.

Aims for agrarian season

Objective for the agrarian season is to produce 9 million tons of grain, 700 hundred thousand tons of rape, 5 million tons of sugar beet. The current dry weather complicates the situation - that is why the President sets strict limits for the sowing campaign.

Problems are seen and eliminated

Problems were also discussed. Some regions have their own issues. They are lagging behind with preparation of equipment, supplies of fertilizers, seeds and crop protection means. All the gaps are visible and the work on their elimination is in progress.
