Belarus seeking trade in the south. On fostering relations with African nations

25 февраля 2018

By Andrei Lapteonok: Belarus continues to expand its economic activity in Africa.

Certainly, the economic and political role of Africa has increased significantly in comparison with the recent past. Africa is today a colossal source of resources and labor.

This is a promising market: the population of the black continent has exceeded one billion. Our country can suggest its technologies, innovations in the field of agriculture, high technologies and much more.

More and more Belarusian companies are actively working in this direction, embodying a new, pragmatic approach to international cooperation in Africa.

When accepting credentials from new ambassadors at the beginning of the year, the Head of State noted that Belarus can offer partners a wide range of integration models. There is a good economic foundation for this. Also, an important role in the development of interstate relations is played by the decisions taken to develop the business initiative and the investment climate in general.

Having combined all the advantages together Belarus is making a good attempt to integrate into the new system of economic relations with African countries.

Africa is an important part of the Belarusian foreign policy and economy. The potential is great: if we combine all the ambitions of our partners on the continent, we will get a promising turnover of about $ 3 billion. This is a serious component of our strategy of export diversification. Assembly plants of MTZ and MAZ have been opened in Egypt. BELAZ has three partners in the region. The Minsk Automobile Plant has 8 supply destinations. The tractor plant has the widest dealer network with 25 client countries.

Today, there are all the prerequisites for Belarus to use its capabilities, the experience of specialists, the possibilities of our industry to expand its presence in Africa.
