Effective use of forest resources discussed at Palace of Independence today

23 мая 2019

Effective use of forest resources was discussed today at the Palace of Independence. The Head of State listened to the reports by vice-premier Vladimir Dvornik and head of the state control committee Leonid Anfimov. As for the forest industry, the President demands to maintain order and sell high value-added products rather than raw materials.

Last year, the country did not export unprocessed roundwood. However, in 2019 there was such a situation that the government appealed to the President with a request to allow the sale of part of the so-called unclaimed wood abroad. The exception was made due to a force majeure: a massive fall of trees due to a hurricane.

There are plenty of raw materials in Belarus. The domestic market is not yet ready for processing low-quality wood. Thus, 3 million cubic meters of wood stock are unclaimed in the country at the moment. However, the President does not support undue export. It is necessary to quickly implement projects for the production of pellets (biofuels) in the country.

Pellet plants will be built in the country and launched in May next year. They will process low-quality wood.
