Belarus marks Power Engineers' Day today

22 декабря 2017

Today, Belarus marks Power Engineers' Day. At the moment, the main task for the country is to ensure its energy security. The launch of the Belarusian NPP is expected to lower the tariffs for electricity for the real sector of the economy by almost a third. Also, the commissioning of the NPP will significantly decrease the country’s dependence on gas from Russia. Today, it is estimated at 95% – this is the share of facilities that operate on the blue fuel.

The first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is scheduled to be commissioned in 2019, the second one will be launched a year later.

Also, starting next year, Belarus completely stops importing electric power. Besides, they are now actively exploring new supply markets of energy. As the Energy Minister noted, Belarusian electric power is quite competitive on the EAEU market, and compared with our partners in the Eurasian Economic Union, it is much cheaper.
