Belarus and Russia strengthen regional cooperation

By Olga Anishchenko: Mutual interest is now presented in the most remote region of Russia - the Sakhalin region. A farm upon a Belarusian project is being built there. For our country it is a new market for the sale of technology. For Sakhalin it is a new level of food security and a step forward in the development of agriculture.

The milk factory is built on the island in half an hour's drive fr om the capital Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. In a month the new cowsheds will meet the first settlers. Cows will have to travel almost 10 thousand kilometers.

The farm should be completed turn key next year. Both technologies and equipment are being brought from Belarus.

The project does not only include a livestock complex, but also housing for local workers: 50 spacious houses wh ere Belarusian specialists will live. For the period of work in the farm, housing will be provided free of charge.

The Sakhalin agrarian project is highly appreciated by the Presidents of the two countries. Sakhalin is an example of successful cooperation between Belarus and Russia, says Alexander Lukashenko at a forum of regions in Moscow.

The project is supervised personally by the governor of the island region.
