Alexander Lukashenko meets with members of Eurasian Intergovernmental Council

17 июля 2020
Minsk hosts the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council. Alexander Lukashenko is meeting with the Prime Ministers of the countries of the integration association at this moment. The first was Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The leaders of the EAEU had to communicate virtually due to the pandemic twice this year. This is a difficult time for the Belarusian presidency in  the association. We adhere to clear priorities, speak in favor of removing barriers and exemptions in trade between the Union countries and strengthening the competence of the Eurasian Commission.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, this meeting strengthens the relations in the EAEU. We have common economy based on real seсtor – no reserves of hydrocarbons. Kazakhstan and Russia have big opportunities. There are many problems in the EAEU, we have not fulfilled what we agreed on.

Alexander Lukashenko and Mikhail Mishustin discussed the development of integration not only in Eurasia, but also in the Union between Minsk and Moscow. This is also his first visit to our country as Head of the Government. Alexander Lukashenko spoke about the role of Russia in integration. It should boost the processes, especially economic ones, in the post-Soviet space.

Alexander Lukashenko: we must build our Union relations exclusively on equal basis

Alexander Lukashenko noted that the Belarusian side insists that all agreements are implemented. "We must build our Union relations exclusively on an equal basis. As a historian, I understand this very well and have studied this topic very carefully. Alliances that are not built on equal basis does not exist for a long time."

Mikhail Mishustin thanked Belarus for the excellent organization of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council

The Russian Prime Minister said that they discussed a broad agenda, ensuring freedom of trade, movement of goods, capital, and citizens. "I believe that we have worked very productively, signed the relevant documents, agreed almost everywhere, and there are compromises," he said.

The dialogue in the Palace of Independence continues. They expect that the Prime Ministers will be able to find solutions on many issues within the framework of the strategy for the development of the Eurasian Integration for the next 5 years. This document should be adopted by the Heads of the States in autumn, when the leaders of the EAEU are expected to meet face-to-face in Minsk.
