There is a positive trend in Minsk Region: no increase in the number of people ill with COVID and pneumonia, which is a reason for cautious optimism. When it comes to economic development, the central region is the largest in the country with almost a million and a half people and 15 percent of Belarus' GDP! Thanks to its position, the region attracts investors, and they try to make good use of it. Major investment projects include production of electric buses and passenger cars, a mining and processing complex, and the promising Great Stone park. Both joy and misfortune of the region are its industrial flagships BELAZ and Belaruskali. These giants do much for the economy of the region, but they have a hard time during the pandemic. Nevertheless, the region is yielding results.
Alexander Turchin, Chairman of Minsk Region Executive Committee: "The strategy we are committed to is that the failure of big industrial enterprises should be compensated by other economic activities. Construction, agriculture, retail trade are the sectors that have been showing growth over the year and made it possible to compensate the lagging of the industry."
