A. Lukashenko: Forestry requires modern approaches

The pandemic and other challenges of the past year did not affect the position of forestry in the country's economy. The results of the industry were discussed the day before at the Palace of Independence.

As the President has emphasized, the forest is an important resource that requires modern approaches. And the growth of the country's economy and the balance of ecology in the region largely depend on how to manage forest resources competently. Forest processing should be maximized. Pellet factories are also aimed at this task. The President instructs the government to more actively replace imports with domestic products.

Now forests occupy almost half of the territory of our country. Belarus is firmly entrenched in the top 10 ten European countries rich in the forest. Root timber stock amounts to almost 2 billion cubic meters.

As a result of the conversation, the President set the task to continue the work on involving the entire available wood resource in the turnover. The creation of production facilities for fuel pellets will be continued. This is about making a focus on local types of fuel. In the near future, approaches to using natural gas will be considered.
