Press release
There are 22 countries in the semifinals. After the performance and reverse repetition of all the songs, several telephone numbers will appear on screen giving each country 10 minutes to vote. Most of the voting will be done by phone. It is not a toll-free call. Belarusians are not allowed to vote for its own duo.
In case of telephone communication failure, each country has a back-up jury. After 10 minutes of voting in the semifinals, all data will flow to the information center for processing. Then a summary will be made announcing 10 countries that advanced to the finals.
In the morning of May 11, after the presentation of the Belarusian duo, Alexandra lost her voice and could not sing. This news shocked the Belarusian community. This happened after she sang “My Galileo” five times in a row. She was rushed to a doctor who gave her two injections and told her not to speak and sing, even during the dress rehearsal. However, the rules of the contest say she must be on stage. During the first dress rehearsal, Alexandra stood on the stage in silence making dancing moves she was supposed to make. No recordings were allowed to be used to imitate singing.
Belarusian team leader in Istanbul Alexander Kapenkin said Alexandra keeps a stiff upper lip and does not give up. He also said during the second dress rehearsal Alexandra did sing, although not at the top of her lungs, to be on the safe side.
Alexandra says “There is no turning back!" and intends to give everything she’s got tonight to win. Everyone on our team is deeply worried, of course, about her condition. But A&K are confident in their ability to perform well, just like we are confident in their ultimate victory.
Allow us to remind you one more time that the First National Channel will begin to broadcast the Eurovision-2004 semifinals tonight at 09:45 PM Belarusian time. Be there to root for our duo!
