“The chemistry of creative people from such respectable organizations and excellent organization of regional selection rounds makes our job an easy and incredibly enjoyable experience”, said executive producer of the First National Channel Sergey Kukhto. “We promise you a show to remember, which is already being prepared by the best in the field”.
The involvement of different stages - regional selection rounds, final national round and final selections - is designed to help choose the most beautiful, talented and worthy girl of Belarus. The objectives of a contest of this scale include aesthetic and spiritual upbringing of the younger generation, promotion of full-blown personality, improvement of the national costume culture and popularization of the Belarusian fashion internationally.
Based on the results of the concluding national selection round held on 9 September by an expert commission of the National Beauty School, the national contest jury of psychologists, fashion designers, acting instructors selected 24 finalists out of 91 girls. Three of them represent the National Beauty School, and three come from each region and the city of Minsk. There will be four events: evening dress, national costume, bathing suit and youth dress presentations. The contestants will be able to show their acting skills, choreography, catwalk, the ability to converse and the cultural level in general.
The jury will use a 10-grade system to determine winners in the following nominations “Miss Belarus”, “First Vice Miss”, “Second Vice Miss”, “Miss Charming” and “Miss Photo”. Also the winner in the Miss Belarus Online 2004 will be named. All 24 finalists will receive diplomas and prizes of the organizing committee. The holder of the Miss Belarus title and other nomination winners will have contracts signed with them providing for participation in various international beauty contests, fashion shows, charitable and promotional events. If a nominee is in breach of the contract, her title is subject to forfeiture, while Miss Belarus will lose her main prize: a Gomel-made crown.
The crown is known to carry 100 grams of white gold (standard 585) and about 500 stones, including precious ones. Designer Elena Ivantsova developed a crown using national elements in a Byzantine style.
Already today you can get a glimpse of the contestants by watching “Good Morning, Belarus!” which shows videos of the finalists.
“Yet it is still a very strenuous job choosing the best of the best”, says Sergey Kukhto who participated in regional selection rounds together with Deputy Culture Minister Valery Gedroits, Head of the National Beauty School Olga Serezhnikova, choreographer Svetlana Ermolovich and makeup artist Zhanna Leonova. “One of the reasons why the contest had to be moved from June to September and extra castings to be held was that certain participants had been found out of compliance with the contest requirements, Sergey Kukhto told us. “Many girls tried to hide their age and height… The second selection round helped us find very original and interesting girls from small towns with excellent characteristics and a desire to win”.
A recorded version of the Fourth National Beauty Contest Miss Belarus 2004 will be shown on the First National Channel at 10:00 PM on 24 September.
On 25 September, TV Channel "LAD" will show a recording at 2:00 PM.
