On February 11th for the first time in the history of Belarusian television the First Channel will show a televised version of the 50th Grammy Awards.
The Grammy Awards was established by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in 1958. The idea for the show first appeared in Los Angeles in 1957 during celebrations of the 80th jubilee of the invention of gramophone by Thomas Edison. This gave Grammys their name.
Winners in different categories are chosen by authorized members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, such critically acclaimed and successful musicians and sound directors as Jon Bon Jovi, Prince, Paul Simon, Beyonce.
The following selected artists will be competing for Grammys this year: Amy Winehouse, Kanye West, Paul McCartney, Christina Aguilera, Beck, Green Day, Nickelbac, U2, etc. There are Russians among nominees: opera singer Anna Netrebko and internationally renowned viola player and conductor Yuri Bashmet with The Soloists of Moscow Orchestra.
A televised version of the Grammy Awards will be shown on February 11 in the evening on the First Channel.
