Press release

Belteleradiocompany will take part in Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light television project of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The show will be an alternative to the final of the canceled Eurovision Song Contest 2020.

The decision to cancel the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam was taken by EBU in connection with the difficult epidemiological situation in the world. A special show without competitive principle awaits viewers instead. The winners and Eurovision stars of different years, as well as the singers of the cancelled contest, will turn to the world with words of support and gratitude, present the most vivid 30-second fragments of their competitive compositions and perform a common song in a video format. It was decided that winner of the national eliminations VAL band would represent Belarus in Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light project.

2-hour TV show Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light will be broadcast live from a television studio in the Netherlands. Hosts Chantal Janzen, Edsilia Rombley and Ian Smith will connect via TV with participating countries and will be able to gather millions of viewers around the world.

“A touching, hopeful television program can bring together 41 countries during the time when people across Europe and beyond are separated from their friends, relatives and loved ones. We will pay tribute to people who have suffered from coronavirus and those who are struggling with it,” say the organizers of the television show.

Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light program will be broadcast live on Belarus 1 on May 16 at 22.00. Evgeny Perlin will comment the show.
