Minsk hosts international conference “Thirty Years After Chernobyl”

The international conference titled as Thirty Years After Chernobyl. From Emergency to Revival and Sustainable Socio-Economic Development of Affected Territories will take place today in Minsk. The participants of the conference will take stock of the UN Decade of Recovery and Sustainable Development for Communities Affected by the 1986 Chernobyl Disaster and will discuss new approaches to multilateral Chernobyl cooperation. Speaking at the conference will be Administrator of the UN Development Program, UN Under-Secretary-General Helen Clark. Partaking in the conference will also be representatives of Russia and Ukraine, the Order of Malta, partners from Japan, Sweden, Ireland, the UK, Austria, Italy, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Minsk. The conference will be attended by representatives of international organizations, including the IAEA, the World Bank, the OSCE and the United nations.

Lithuanian tour operators visited resorts of Grodno Region

Lithuanian tour operators visited resorts of Grodno Region. The focus of the visit is the improvement of tourism infrastructure. According to experts, Belarusian resorts boast great potential. After a similar visit by Polish tour operators, 9 agreements were signed with Grodno Region sanatoriums. The first bus with Polish tourists is expected in mid-May.

Orthodox Christians celebrate Holy Week

Today Orthodox Christians celebrate the beginning of Holy Week. This is a time when Orthodox Christians pray hard, recall the last earthly days of the Savior, his painful death and burial. As a sign of mourning, this week priests wear black outfits. Today - on Monday - the fasting becomes even stricter for the believers. This day is considered to be "great" in the Orthodox calendar. Holy Week will end on May 1.
