Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to deliver annual State of the Nation Address on 21 April

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko will deliver the annual State of the Nation Address tomorrow, the press service of the Belarusian leader informed.

The event will be held in the Oval Hall of the House of Government and will be broadcast by Belarusian TV channels at 21:00. The head of state will speak about the most important social policy issues, personnel strategy, the improvement of the pension system, healthcare and education. Besides, the Address will focus on Belarus’ foreign policy priorities. It is expected that the economic block will be the central and the biggest one. First of all, it will touch upon the goals and plans for this year.

Lidia Yermoshina: Belarusian parliamentary election 80% ready

The Belarusian parliamentary election is 80% ready, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina informed. All oblast executive committees and the Minsk City Hall have harmonized the description of constituencies with the Central Election Commission. The CEC session is expected to take place on 17 May. The campaign itself will kick off in early June, after the approval of the election date. Among the peculiarities of the future electoral event is the simplification of the reporting procedure, as well as increased constituencies. Political parties will have the right to appoint a member of the district committee with an advisory capacity.

Minsk to host Meeting of Parties to Espoo Convention in 2017

Next year Minsk will become the venue for the meeting of the Parties to the Convention on environmental impact assessment. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources of Belarus Iya Malkina at the "ATOMEXPO" forum. Belarus joined the Convention 10 years ago. The country is to discuss the environmental impact of major projects not only domestically, but also with its neighbors. An exhibition of photographs which depict natural landscapes of Ostrovets district is a part of the Convention meeting. The presentation of works by Hungarian photographer Vince Balint "Nature around the NPP" served as the idea for the project. 40 images made in the vicinity of 10 Russian nuclear power plants prove that nuclear power facilities have no effect on the environment.
