The Belarusian weightlifting team will be disqualified for a year after the Olympic Games in Rio, as stated by International Weightlifting Federation President Tamas Ajan. Similar sanctions will apply to the teams of Russia and Kazakhstan and the list might be expanded.

The official decision will be announced in late September - early October. The Russian weightlifters have already missed the Rio Olympics. Participation of the Belarusian team was also disputed, but the International Olympic Committee failed to complete crosschecking the doping samples taken at the London and Beijing Olympics in time, and the Belarusians were allowed to compete.

In June, the Federation adopted a rule according to which the country is suspended for one year in case of three or more positive tests after rechecking the doping tests from the previous Olympics.
