19 мая 2017

By Andrey Kozlov: Minsk has become truly the central arena of not only the most important political and discussion forums, but also the biggest international sports competitions. Last week, it became known that in 2019 the Belarusian capital will host the second European games. And today the news came in that in 2021 Minsk will once again host the IIHF World Championship.

These days, the capital's Palace of Sports hosts another championship – the 2017 European Sambo Championship. 500 athletes from 30 countries arrived in the Belarusian capital. The organizers of the European Championship are the European and Belarusian Sambo Federations, the republican state-public association Presidential Sports Club, the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, the Minsk City Executive Committee, the National Olympic Committee, and the International Sambo Federation.

The 2017 European Sambo Championship in Minsk also serves as a rehearsal for the 2019 European Games. It was announced yesterday that sambo will be included in the programme of the Games that Belarus will host.

Only this year, Belarus will host about 80 international competitions. A week earlier, the World Muaythai Championship was successfully held, and in the coming weekend the best Sambo players of Europe will play for 27 sets of medals – 9 of them among men and women, as well as in the Combat Sambo category.

The 45th European Sambo Championship, which became the third for our country, will finish on 21 May. Entrance to all matches is free. However, we advise you to come in advance – already on the first day of the competitions, the stands virtually had no vacant seats left.
