Second European Games to be held in 2019 in Belarus

The historic decision has been taken by a vote today in Minsk at the meeting of the 45th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees. It was supported by the majority of our country's high-ranking guests. The meeting itself is held in Minsk for the first time. Today, President Alexander Lukashenko has participated in it. The Head of State notes that Belarus has created all the necessary conditions for hosting international competitions of the highest level. The country has already successfully hosted world championships. The presence of a complete infrastructure for the organization of international sporting competitions in Minsk was acknowledged today by the most influential functionaries of sport.

Today a number of bilateral meetings have been held as well. Acting head of the European Olympic Committees Janez Kocijančič has assured President Alexander Lukashenko that the competition will be the qualifying stage before the Olympic Games in Tokyo. At a meeting with the vice-president of the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan, the Head of State notes that Belarus intends to use the experience of Baku, which hosted the first European games last year. Several awards have been presented today. Chingiz Huseynzade gave the Olympic Order to the President of Belarus. Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah presented the Order of the Association of National Olympic Committees. Head of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Gagik Tsarukyan gave Alexander Lukashenko a gift in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Belarusian Olympic Committee.
