Belarus president’s working visit to Kyrgyzstan over

Today President Alexander Lukashenko took part in the EAEU summit in Bishkek. During the talks, the President expressed the opinion that 2017 may become a turning point in establishment of Unified Energy System. Belarus presented proposals on expanding and deepening the Eurasian integration.

The Presidents of Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, and Moldova gathered at the table of negotiations. There were 10 issues on the agenda of the meeting. A particular attention was paid to economic cooperation with third parties. The leaders considered the issue of creating a free trade zone with Iran and the application of Moldova to obtain the observer status in the EAEU. In addition, the heads of the states of the Eurasian Union discussed the main guidelines of the macroeconomic policies for the next two years.

Also, Alexander Lukashenko held a bilateral meeting with his Moldovan counterpart Igor Dodon. The leaders reaffirmed the need in a more fruitful cooperation. Despite the difficult situation in the region and the world the figures of bilateral trade inspire optimism. The volume of the Belarusian-Moldovan trade turnover last year amounted to 227 million dollars. There are several joint assembly plants in Moldova.

Following the summit in Bishkek, the leaders of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union signed 11 documents. In addition, a formal decision was made on granting Moldova the status of the observer in the EAEU.

Today the President of Belarus also participated in an informal CSTO summit. The leaders of six countries discussed issues of security, major threats and challenges, as well as joint efforts of response. Also, the heads of states appointed the new CSTO Secretary General –Yuri Khatchaturov, the representative of Armenia.
