President sets priorities for Belarusian police

By Olga Makei: Alexander Lukashenko promised that he will be present at the final meetings of various departments to see and know all the problems not only from documents and reports, but also from inside, talking to representatives of various law enforcement departments.

The work of the police ensures public security in the country. This was stated today by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. During the last 10 years the crime situation in the country was characterized by steady decrease in the number of reported crimes. However, in 2015 their number, though slightly, but rose slightly more than 3%. After hearing the reports Alexander Lukashenko pointed to the most painful issue for the bodies of internal affairs.

Drug trafficking and psychotropic almost turned into a factor that poses a real threat to national security. But thanks to rigid position of the state and well-coordinated work of law enforcement officers the situation did not get out of control.

But in addition to drugs, there is another problem - alcohol. 80 percent of murders and crimes were committed under the influence.

Of course, the main criterion for police work is streets safely. This is confirmed by a survey conducted by the Information and Analytical Centre. On average, their security was approved by more than 80 percent of Belarusians.

Efficiency, professionalism, honesty and responsibility. According to these criteria Belarusians assess the work of state agencies.

Over the past year more than a thousand officers have been convicted of economic crimes. The fight against corruption and economic crimes remains a priority.

8 key objectives for the police were voiced by the President. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has to be actively involved in fight against economic crime, to analyze the crime situation more deeply, to make effective management decisions. In addition, there is an issue of optimization.
