In an interview to Chinese media, President Alexander Lukashenko invited China to use opportunities in Belarus as the centre of Europe. The conversation with the journalists of China Central Television and the Xinhua news agency was held before the forthcoming historic visit of President Xi Jinping to Belarus.

Minsk and Beijing’s strategic partnership is proved by figures. For the second consecutive year, the mutual trade has exceeded 4 billion dollars. The core of Belarusian-Chinese economic relations is formed by credit and investment cooperation - over the past six years, Chinese banks have provided 14 billion dollars.

The interview was mostly focused on the future of Belarusian-Chinese relations in the context of the Chinese President’s forthcoming visit to Belarus. The journalists were interested in the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory. Alexander Lukashenko admitted that he sees no political motives behind his planned absence at the 9 May parade in Moscow - after all, Belarusian military men will be marching along the Red Square side by side with soldiers from a number of other countries.

Alexander Lukashenko’s interview will be released by the Xinhua News Agency and CCTV on 9 May.
