Problems and prospects of the construction industry discussed at Presidential council

By Andrei Krivosheev: Today the Head of State held a meeting, which is equally interesting for specialists, and for millions of ordinary consumers. Belarus plans to reach 104% of the last year's exports of services and enter new markets. But the shortage of effective demand, preferences and trade barriers hamper the exports. Russia, Ukrain and Baltic States are our main markets. The main objective is cost reduction. Another priority is large-scale modernization.

Major orders for the industry include new concrete roads, satellite towns, a nuclear power plant and industrial park "Great Stone". There are hundreds of other big projects.

The head of the state set a task to protect the domestic market. A special attention was paid to stocks. Modernization means higher volumes of products. For cement and glass it is 2 times higher, and 1.5 times for the gravel . Such stocks in most cases are justified. For example, ceramic tiles need to be stored in collections. Now the construction season is in full swing, and the Ministry of Architecture counts on new contracts with Russian regions.

Though the industry has worked for the first half with a good profit, it is impossible to completely abandon the financial state support of manufacturers. The government was ordered to provide a delay of 2-2.5 years for paying credits and reconsider the interest rates. The President is categorical: the support should be provided on individual basis and only after the manufacturer lowers costs and reduces the actual cost price. Today it is the main condition for the presidential help and the guarantee of success throughout the industry.
