Minsk and Islamabad to deepen friendly ties in various spheres

Alexander Lukashenko and Nawaz Sharif have agreed to deepen friendly ties between Minsk and Islamabad during a meeting as part of the Belarusian President’s official visit to Pakistan. The talks began with a remarkable ceremony at the residence of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who warmly welcomed Alexander Lukashenko.

Joined by delegations members, the parties focused on discussing cooperation in agriculture, industry, education, customs, banking and other spheres. One of the international documents signed as a result of the negotiations is the leaders’ joint statement, in which Alexander Lukashenko and Nawaz Sharif have confirmed the countries’ intention to deepen friendly ties in various spheres. As announced by President Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus and Pakistan are going to closely cooperate with third countries.

The parties have signed 15 documents, including agreements on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation. The governments of the two countries have entered into an agreement on air communications.

The first official visit of the Belarusian President to Pakistan took place in May 2015, marking the beginning of a serious high-level political dialogue. Nawaz Sharif visited Minsk 2.5 months later after the meeting in Islamabad.
