President Alexander Lukashenko said he was not satisfied with the way Belarus’ borders were protected at yesterday’s meeting on results of a random check of the State Border Committee’s activities. The check, which took place at the state border, lasted for two months and revealed a number of serious security gaps.
The President initiated a frank conversation with the security forces directly responsible for the first barrier to cross-border crime. Alexander Lukashenko emphasised that, given Belarus’ transit location in Europe, the highly charged situation at the country’s borders and intensification of terrorist and extremist activities, border security becomes a top priority of the state.
