President Alexander Lukashenko has stressed the constructive stance of the clergy in regard to current political events in Belarus during a meeting with the Synod of the Belarusian Orthodox Church. The President thanked the church “for its work that contributes to the overall development of the country and society” and emphasised the fact that some major changes had occurred in the Belarusian exarchate. Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that the fundamental values of the Orthodox Church - justice and humanity - had been inspiring people to heroism, helping them to overcome the most difficult times.

In turn, Metropolitan Pavel of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus pointed out that the Belarusian Orthodox Church was not a competitor to the state, but its reliable and constructive supporter. Metropolitan Pavel thanked the President for the significant support provided by the state in the construction and restoration of orthodox facilities and common cultural and spiritual values.
