By Alexei Adashkin: Belarus should overcome negative economic trends and reach a steady development pace, as stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in his address to the parliamentarians at today’s meeting of the 5th and 6th convocations of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic. The event is currently taking place in the Oval Hall of the Government House, featuring about 400 people, including representatives of the Government, Government agencies and the diplomatic corps.

The parliamentary elections took place less than a month ago. A very high level of competition was observed, one deputy seat claimed by more than four persons. 27 legislators have maintained their mandates. During the election campaign, Belarus had the opportunity to demonstrate the transparency of its electoral system to international observers.

The deputies of the 5th convocation have adopted over 400 bills and done much to ensure macroeconomic stability and the strengthening of the financial and banking systems. They also played a major role in forming the EAEU legal basis.

The 6th convocation will be tasked with creating a high quality legal framework for implementing the programme of Belarus’ social and economic development up to 2020. This is a strategic national project with emphasis on investments, employment, exports, informatisation and youth.
