Consultations of the assistants to the Normandy Four heads are expected to take place in Minsk today, as confirmed by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry. The agenda of the meeting to be held behind closed doors is still unknown. According to the Russian President’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, the negotiations were announced following a telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and head of the Fifth Republic Francois Hollande.

Normandy Four is a diplomatic group consisting of the representatives of Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia, which deals with the settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine and the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

The situation in Donbas remains quite tense. The ceasefire regime imposed on the eve of Easter holidays following Contact Group negotiations in Minsk has been introduced in the region since April 1. However, according to observers, the truce is not being observed in full.
