By Yuri Kozlov (live): Following a meeting with the Belarusian leader, the CEI Foreign Ministers arrived at the President Hotel to be welcomed by Belarus’ Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei. A meeting of the CEI Foreign Ministers began just a few minutes ago.

The Central European Initiative was founded in 1989 and currently consists of 18 countries. Belarus joined the CEI in the mid-1990s and is chairing the organization this year.

According to CEI Alternate Secretary General Margot Klestil-Loffler, Belarus is a very active chair putting forward lots of fresh initiatives. One of the most attractive ones for the organization is the so-called idea of compatibility and complementarity in Greater Europe. It lies in an active search for common ground between the continent’s different integration formats, such as the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union. Besides, Belarus offers some new ways of interaction with Chinese partners, Margot Klestil-Loffler said.

The CEI Foreign Ministers believe that the unity of all countries will allow achieving economic prosperity in the region.

The CEI chairmanship means a lot to Belarus — heading the organization, the country will get an opportunity to attract new partners and investments.

The meeting of the CEI Foreign Ministers is expected to finish in the next few hours and be followed by a press conference.
