Making Union State joint programmes more effective

15 июня 2017

This issue of making joint programmes of the Union State more effective became the main topic at the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

As Speaker of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko stated, the parliament should participate more actively in the preparation of documents for the development of the Union State. Another important point of the meeting in the House of the Government was the harmonisation of legislation on ensuring equal civil rights and also on trade and economic cooperation. Today, the parliamentarians tried to work out an action plan for the next 5 years.

Vladimir Andreichenko, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus:

"We believe that the Union State still has a lot of potential today. This was said today by the members of the Parliamentary Assembly. It is especially relevant in terms of ensuring equal rights for the citizens of Russia and Belarus, as well as issues of trade and economic cooperation. Therefore, the position of the Union Parliamentarians is unequivocal – we need to work more resolutely to overcome the obstacles that we face. Often they are far-fetched, so we need to get rid of them. This will be our focus when we work out the priority tasks for the development of the Union State in 2018-2022."

The session was attended by representatives of the Standing Committee of the Union State, ministries and departments of Belarus and Russia. Among the priority joint programmes are economic projects that foster favourable conditions for businesses, as well as programmes aimed at strengthening the scientific potential of the Union State.

Grigory Rapota, the State Secretary of the Union State:

"I believe that this should be one of the key points of our cooperation between Russia and Belarus. The potential is definitely there. To move forward economy-wise, we need to modernize manufacturing, which is why we need science. Science improves our export production greatly."

The next meeting of the parliamentarians of the Union State will be held in December in Bryansk. The agenda will include social policies and the creation of equal conditions for the protection of the rights of citizens, including legislation on health and education.
