The fact that Minsk is open to dialogue with the Council of Europe has been mentioned by Andrea Rigoni at today’s meeting with Speaker of the Belarusian Parliament Vladimir Andreichenko. Belarus is interested in developing cooperation primarily for studying experience and bringing its legislation closer to European standards. Last year, the Belarusian Government adopted a national plan for human rights. Today, the House of Representatives will host a meeting of a working group on the death penalty.

According to Andrea Rigoni, significant progress has been achieved in relations between Minsk and the Council of Europe over the past two years. On behalf of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, he thanked the Belarusian side for what had been done to develop the cooperation.
