On June 221941 the troops of Nazi Germany without any declaration of war invaded the Soviet Union.

On this day 75 years ago our people were close-knit and united as never before. At this moment the participants of the 5th All-Belarusian Assembly are laying flowers and wreaths to the Monument of Victory.

In the first 48 hours of the war 19 000 defenders of the Belarusian border were killed. And it is symbolic that today, at dawn, on the Victory Plaza in Minsk, the border guards officers and cadets laid wreaths at the obelisk and observed a moment of silence in memory of the fallen heroes.

The obelisk was set for the 10th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus fr om Nazi invaders. Four bronze wreathes around the monument symbolize the four fronts, which took part in the liberation of our country in 1944.

The participants of the Fifth All-Belarusian People's Assembly, people of different professions and ages, representatives of public institutions, industrial giants and universities, are all here today to share the grief of the nation.

From Victory Plaza the participants will travel to the Palace of Republic, wh ere they will take part in the most important political event, which will determine the life of the country for the coming years.
