According to official data, more than 200 thousand people were killed in Trostenets, the largest death camp in Belarus. By the number of victims it is not inferior to Auschwitz, Majdanek and Treblinka. The concentration camp was built in the surroundings of Trostenets. Prisoners were not only villagers, partisans and underground fighters. Jews from Austria, Poland, Czechoslovakia, France, Germany were brought here under the guise of resettlement. "Trostenets" embraces a number of places of mass destruction: Shashkovka is a place of burning prisoners, Blagovschina is a place of executions and the camp itself.

Now the Memorial Trostenets is ready for the official opening. This event was awaited in Belarus and abroad for decades. The climax of the whole memorial is the sculpture "Gates of Memory."

The main characters of the opening ceremony are veterans.

As conceived by the architects, the center of the complex is a monument "The Gates of Memory". Anguish, tears and pain. The composition reflects the feelings of prisoners of concentration camps.

After the ceremony, Alexander Lukashenko talks to veterans. Of course, the main wishes for those, who 70 years ago defended the independence and peace of our land, are health and longevity.

Since the beginning of the creation of the memorial complex "Trostenets" the project was under personal control of the Head of State. According to Alexander Lukashenko, the memorial Trostenets should be a common European value.

The victims of the Great Patriotic War are an open wound that is not healed by time. According to Alexander Lukashenko, the construction of a memorial is a matter of honor for Belarusians.
