A golf course might be set up on the Augustow Canal in the next two years. According to experts, along with a visa-free regime, this will create a new tourist destination in the Grodno region. This announcement has been made by Belarusian Golf Association Chairman Vladimir Drazhin at today’s opening ceremony of a mini-golf course at the Grodno youth centre. In the meantime, the project provides for setting up another open-air venue in Grodno by the summer. As pointed out at the ceremony, golf’s elitism should be maintained, but at the same time it should become a popular sport. The game will be taught at Grodno schools, gymnasiums and universities.

Setting up golf courses and creating game infrastructure will take place in the form of public-private partnership. Search for a suitable location for the golf club and negotiations with investors are currently underway.

Mini-golf courses are planned to be set up in Lida, Novogrudok and Korelichi in the near future.
